Growing up in Michigan where we have three forts from the 18th century all along major waterways, that were integral not only for protection but also established trade, I’ve always been fascinated by the era of voyageurs and fur traders. This book totally increases that fascination. The Fur Trader’s Lady by Gabrielle Meyer is rich in detail and history. Plus, an amazing story line. The journey of Charlotte and Reid from Montreal to the interior and down to the Mississippi had me fully drawn in. The twists, the roadblocks in human form of an evil guardian and a half-brother add to the tale.

I’m looking forward to the rest of the series of her Ladies in the Wilderness.
